Rangers Win 3rd Straight Plus NBA Draft Thursday In Today’s Sports

 

The Paris Optimist Club will be hosting the Dixie Youth Baseball Divisions 1 & 2 AA Coach Pitch North Regional State Tournament June 30 through July 2 at the Charles Taylor Youth Complex at Woodall Fields. Admission is $10 for ages 13 and up, $4 for ages 6-12. Five and under are free. Come out to the ballpark and support youth baseball

The NBA draft is this Thursday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York. With the 5th pick in the draft, it is wide open as to who the Mavericks will be selecting. Most people agree they need a big man to help defend the paint. A lot of the mock drafts have Texas taking Mo Bamba, a 7′-1″ big man with a wingspan of nearly 8′-0″.

Texas won their third game in a row as the defeated Kansas City 6-3 on Monday night. The game was busted open in the third thanks in part to a three-run homer from Adrian Beltre. With that home run, Beltre tied Miguel Cabrera & Dave Winfield for 32nd all-time on MLB’s career home runs list with 465. Bartolo Colon got the win for the Rangers, passing Juan Marichal for most wins by a Dominican born player. Stephen F. Austin State University has suspended head football coach Clint Conque pending an investigation into alleged violations of university policy. The investigation is expected to take several weeks. No comments will be made by the university until the investigation is complete.”

San Antonio Spurs forward Rudy Gay is declining his 2018-19 player option to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Gay is turning down a salary of $8.8 million in order to hit free agency. The 31-year-old veteran signed a two-year, $17 million deal with the Spurs last offseason, and the deal contained a player option on the second year.

As part of its aggressive commitment to relaunch its basketball sneaker category for the first time in 20 years, Puma on Monday announced that rapper and business mogul Jay-Z has been named the president of Puma Basketball. In advance of this week’s NBA draft, Puma has already signed projected first-round picks Deandre Ayton, Marvin Bagley III and Zhaire Smith to multiyear footwear and apparel endorsement deals. The trio represents the first NBA endorsement deals for the brand in two decades.

The Washington Nationals have acquired right-handed reliever Kelvin Herrera from the Kansas City Royals for three prospects. The Royals are acquiring outfielder Blake Perkins, third baseman Kelvin Gutierrez and right-handed pitcher Yohanse Morel for Herrera, one of the most desirable bullpen arms available on the trade market.

Washington Capitals head coach Barry Trotz has tendered his resignation from the team, becoming a free agent after leading the franchise to its first Stanley Cup on June 7. “After careful consideration and consultation with my family, I am officially announcing my resignation as Head Coach of the Washington Capitals,” Trotz said in a statement Monday.
