Rangers Win on Hit-By-Pitch Plus HS Vollyeball

Paris – Last night in high school volleyball the Paris Lady Cats win a Lamar county showdown sweeping the Prairiland Lady Patriots 25-18, 25-11 and 25-22. The North Lamar Pantherettes sweep Denison. And the Chisum Lady Mustangs fall to class 5A Mt. Pleasant. Tomorrow, the Paris Wildcats, North Lamar Panthers and Chisum Mustangs host their final scrimmages before beginning the regular season next week. Paris welcomes Denison to Wildcat Stadium, while North Lamar will host Daingerfield. And Chisum will take on Clarksville. On Friday Prairiland will host Detroit.

Mount Pleasant – Area volleyball teams were on the floor last night. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers swept Chisum in three sets, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-18. The Chapel Hill Lady Devils fall to 6-2 on the season after suffering a three set sweep to New Boston 15-25, 22-25 and 17-25. Area football teams will play their final tune up games before beginning the regular season next weekend. Tomorrow the Pittsburg Pirates will host Palestine. Daingerfield will be on the road against North Lamar. Paul Pewitt is on the road against Redwater. On Friday the Mt. Pleasant Tigers will host Pleasant Grove at 10am and Mt. Vernon will visit Edgewood.

Sulphur Springs – Season tickets are still available for the Texas A&M-Commerce Lion 2016 football season. Despite season tickets selling at a record pace several locations in the stadium are still available to see the defending back to back Lone Star Conference champions. Local volleyball teams will be in tournament action this weekend while football teams play their final tune up games before the start of the regular season next week. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will be at the Wills Point Tournament while the Sulphur Springs football hosts Liberty Eylau at Prim Stadium on Friday morning at 10am.

Last night the Texas Rangers win one of the most unusual games of the season 5-4 over the Oakland A’s. With the game tied at four in the bottom of the 10th, the Rangers win when Roogie Odor was hit by a pitch. Texas will go for the sweep over Oakland tonight. First pitch on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm is set for 7:05.

At the 31st summer Olympics in Rio, U.S. gymnast, Simone Biles, closes out her summer with yet another gold medal. Her 5th medal of the games comes in the floor exercise. Teammate Aly Raisman won the silver. The U.S. Women’s basketball team dominated Japan 110-64 to advance to the semi-finals. The men will take on Argentina at 4:45pm Central Time. In the overall medal count the U.S. leads with 84, including 28 gold.

And Dallas Cowboys Owner, President, and General Manager Jerry Jones has been selected as one of two finalists to be entered into the NFL Hall of Fame as a contributor, along with former Commissioner, Paul Tagliabue. Jones bought the team in 1989.
