Rangers Win Plus NBA Awards In Today’s Sports Report

The NBA Awards were handed out last night and former Mavericks assistant coach Dwayne Casey was named the coach of the year for leading the Toronto Raptors to the best record in the East.

Subsequently, Casey was fired after his team lost to LeBron James in the playoffs. Since then, Casey was hired by the Detroit Pistons.

After believing he should’ve won Most Valuable Player last year but coming away empty-handed, James Harden chose not to prepare a speech in case he did not win MVP on Monday night. So when the Houston Rockets guard capped off a spectacular season by walking away from the NBA Awards show with the game’s top individual honor, Harden was almost speechless at first. The Coach of the Year honors went to former Raptors coach Dewane Casey, who has since been hired by the Pistons.

Thanks to a 5-run sixth inning the Rangers defeated the Padres 7-4. Texas trailed 4-1 going into the inning. In the win, Shin-soo Choo reached base in his 38th consecutive game for Texas. Texas and San Diego will play again tonight on 1490AM and 96.3FM KPLT. Pregame at 6:30. First pitch at 7:05.

The College World Series was postponed because of weather last night. Arkansas and Oregon State will try again, tonight.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A former defensive end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the University of Alabama has been arrested on drug charges in Florida. Pinellas County Jail records show that Keith McCants, 50, was arrested early Monday near St. Petersburg. He is charged with a felony count of possession of crack cocaine and driving with a revoked or suspended license. He bonded out of jail, but records don’t list a lawyer.

The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t able to officially recruit free agents until free agency begins late Saturday night, but one fan has already begun an all-out, full-court press for Paul George. Jacob Emrani, a personal injury attorney and longtime Lakers season-ticket holder who put up four billboards recruiting LeBron James to the Lakers back in March, now says he has paid for over 40 billboards around Los Angeles — including two near Staples Center — centered around George joining the Lakers. Several billboards will go up on Monday and stay until the end of July.
