Rangers Win Wild One Plus College Football Rankings

Paris – Area volleyball teams were on the court last night. The North Lamar Pantherette’s stay dominant at home defeating Commerce in straight sets 25-18, 25-17, and 25-15. The Chisum Lady Mustangs defeat Quinlan Ford in four sets. Prairiland defeats Cumby and the Paris Lady Cats fall to Melissa. Teams return to action this weekend.

Mount Pleasant – The Chapel Hill Lady Devil volleyball team was in action last night, picking up a three set sweep over Redwater, 25-15, 25-12, and 25-21. Area football teams are back in action Friday night. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers play their home opener at Sam Parker Field against Sherman on K LAKE 97.7. Kickoff is at 7pm. The Star Country game of the week will feature the Paul Pewitt Brahmas against the Hughes Springs Mustangs on 96.9. Kickoff is at 7:30.

Sulphur Springs – Area teams will be back in action this Friday night for week 3 of the Texas high school football season. On Star Country 95.9, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats visit the Paris Wildcats. Sulphur Springs and Paris each sport a 1-1 record on the season with the Blue and Gold Wildcats beating Sherman in week one and the Navy and Silver Wildcats beating Pleasant Grove in week 2. Kick off on Star 95.9 is at 7:30.

Last night the Texas Rangers win over the Seattle Mariners 10-7. Elvis Andrus had a big night with four hits that included three doubles and a home run. The Rangers are 83-56 on the season and lead the AL West by 8.5 games. Texas and Seattle play game three of four tonight [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] First pitch is set for 9:05pm.

New Coaches Polls were released in college football. To no surprise, the Alabama Crimson Tide remain at the top. Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State and Stanford round out the top five. The Houston Cougars are the highest ranked Texas school at number 7. TCU is 12th. Baylor checks in at 19, followed by 20th ranked Texas and Texas A&M at 24. Oklahoma comes in at 13.
