In the American League, Wild card game last night, the Tampa Bay Rays powered past the Oakland A’s 5-1.
The ALDS starts Friday at 1:05 pm with the Rays at Houston on FS1 and Minnesota at the Yankees at 6:07 pm on MLB Network.
The NLDS will feature St Louis at Atlanta this afternoon at 4:02 pm on TBS. And, the Nationals face the Dodgers in LA tonight at 7:37 pm on TBS.
Longtime Arizona Cardinals owner Bill Bidwill died Wednesday while surrounded by his family and loved ones, the team announced. He was 88. Bill Bidwill’s father, Charles, bought the Chicago Cardinals in 1932, and Bill was associated with the team for eight decades. Bidwill gave up day-to-day operations to Michael in 2007, when Michael became the team president.
New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski will have season-ending surgery for a left hip injury. Gostkowski, the Patriots’ all-time leader in points and field goals has been placed on injured reserve. He is expected to be ready for the 2020 season, meanwhile, New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley was on the practice field Wednesday, running and cutting 10 days after suffering a high ankle sprain against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Pat Shurmur would not rule out Barkley for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, although it is highly unlikely he plays.
LSU running back Lauard Fournette left the team on Wednesday. Fournette, the younger brother of former LSU star and current Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette, graduated in May and withdrew from school on Wednesday. During his four years with the Tigers, Fournette totaled just 162 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
