Two Road Repair Projects Slated in Red River County

PARIS – Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that contractor AK Gillis & Son, Sulphur Springs, Texas, will soon begin work on two road improvement projects in Red River County in Northeast Texas on Tuesday (Apr 26).

The contractor will reconstruct FM 44 from FM 412 in Boxelder eastward to the Bowie County line, and reconstruct Spur 38 in Bogota from BU 271D to State Highway 37. The contractor has approximately 222 working days, weather permitting, to complete this project valued at more than $4.6 million.

TxDOT officials said widening of FM 44 is 20 feet to 26 feet, and Spur 38 is 20 feet to 24 feet. The contractor will also widen or replace existing drainage structures to match the wider pavement, and upgrade bridge rails at two locations.

The contractor anticipates setting barricades at both work locations on April 25. TxDOT officials said the Spur 38 project should be completed by August 2016 while the target completion date for work on FM 44 is August 2017.

Both roadways will remain open to traffic while this work is underway, but motorists will at times encounter one-way daytime lane closures. Flaggers will be on hand to direct traffic when lane closures occur, TxDOT officials said.

Motorists are urged to use alternate travel routes. If that is not possible, they should approach work zones cautiously, observe and obey all traffic controls and barricades, and travel through work zones at reduced speed while this work is underway. Drivers should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking, or car audio or navigation systems when driving.
