Paris – Area volleyball is back in action tonight. In a Lamar County duel, the Chisum Lady Mustangs host the Paris Lady Cats at Mustang Gym. Matches begin at 4:30. Ranked 5th in Class 4A, the North Lamar Pantherette’s travel to Melissa. Ranked 13th in 2A, Detroit will travel to James Bowie. Prairiland is on the road at Pittsburg. And Roxton will host Wolfe City.
Mount Pleasant – Area volleyball is back in action tonight. In a rivalry match up the Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs host the Daingerfield Lady Tigers. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers continue district play when they host Marshall wish games beginning at 4:30. The Chapel Hill Lady Devils host the Linden Kildare Lady Tigers. The Pittsburg Lady Pirates will travel to face Prairiland. And the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers will host Lone Oak and Cumby.
Sulphur Springs – Area volleyball is back in action tonight. In a district rivalry match up the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats host the Texas High Lady Tigers. Match time is 6pm. North Hopkins will be hosting Como-Pickton. The Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers host Lone Oak and Cumby. Miller Grove will travel to Linden-Kildare. Emory Rains volleyball is off tonight and will travel to Bullard on Friday.
Last night the Texas Rangers take the first of a three game set against the Houston Astros 4-3 in 12 innings. With the game knotted up, Roogie Odor cranked out his 2nd extra inning long ball of the season. With the win the Rangers improve to 86-59 on the season and lead the AL West by 9.5 games over Seattle. Texas and Houston play game two tonight at Minute Maid Park. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 7:10pm.
Monday Night Football kicked off in the NFL last night with a double header. In the early game the Pittsburg Steelers dominates Washington out of the NFC East 38-16. DeAngelo Williams rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns. At age 33, Williams is the oldest running back to rush for 100 yards since Fred Taylor for the Patriots in 2009. Washington will host the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday at noon.
In the late game, the San Francisco 49ers shut out the newly located LA Rams 28-0. And with that week 1 in the NFL has come to a close. Week 2 begins Thursday night.
