Second Defendant In Jasper Dragging Murder Receives Execution Date

An execution date has been set for the second of three men convicted of a notorious murder twenty years ago. John William King will be put to death by lethal injection on April 24. He and two other white men chained a mentally disabled black man to the back of a pickup in 1998 and dragged him to death near Jasper. Lawrence Russell Brewer, formerly of Sulphur Springs has already been executed and the third defendant is serving a life sentence.
