Paris – In the area round of the high school soccer playoffs the Paris Lady Cats defeat Ferris 2-nil to advance to the regional quarterfinal round. They’ll face the Kaufman Lady Lions, who eliminated North Lamar 4-3. Both Paris and North Lamar boys lost in the area round. From district action in high school baseball and softball the Paris Wildcats tally up 14 from Louisiana Tech Commit Phillip Sikes as Paris beats Pittsburg 5-2. The Wildcats are now 2-1 in district play. The North Lamar Panthers also fall to 2-1 in district after being edged by the Pleasant Grove Hawks 2-1. The Pantherette softball team improves to 3-2 with a 3-0 shut out against the Lady Hawks. Bailee Nickerson led the offense with a two run homer.
MP – In the area round of the high school soccer playoffs the Pittsburg Pirates saw their season come to an end 3-nil at the hands of Henderson. From district action in high school baseball and softball the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers defeat the Marshall Lady Mavericks 3-1. With the win Mt. Pleasant Softball improves to 7-1 in district 15-5A, and remain in 2nd place behind unbeaten Hallsville. The Mt. Pleasant baseball team suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of Marshall. The loss gives the Tigers a 3-3 district mark and ties them for forth place with Pine Tree. The Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs beat Mt. Vernon 5-2. And the Pittsburg Pirates fall to the Paris Wildcats 5-2.
SS – In the area round of the high school girls soccer playoffs the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats capture a win in Penalty Kicks over Waxahachie. Next Sulphur Springs girls soccer will take on Mansfield Legacy. In district baseball and softball action from over the weekend the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats defeat Longview 4-0. The win puts the Lady Cats in soul possession of 3rd place in district 15-5A with a 5-3 record. Sulphur Springs Softball is 21-5 overall on the season. The Wildcat baseball team suffered a narrow 7-5 loss to the Lobos. With a 2-4 district mark, Sulphur Springs baseball is one game out of a playoff spot behind Mt. Pleasant and Pine Tree. And the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers softball team fell to Hughes springs 5-2.
Yesterday in the NBA the Dallas Mavericks beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 88-78 and have suddenly won four straight. Dallas is now 39-38 on the season and are tied for 7th place in the West with Utah. Meanwhile, The Golden State Warriors win over Portland 136-111 to improve to 69-8 on the season. The Warriors need to go 4-1 in their final five games to capture the NBA Regular season record for wins set by the 95-96 Chicago Bulls.
In the NHL The Dallas Stars fall to Anaheim 3-1, but remain two points ahead of the St. Louis Blues for the top spot in the Western Conference.
