Softball Playoffs on Tap Plus Rangers Trounce Yankees

Paris – Yesterday morning in a press release Paris Junior College announced the Board of Regents has voted to discontinue the volleyball and golf programs, citing financial restraints. According to Dr. Pam Anglin, doing away with the programs will save PJC $350,000 annually.

In high school baseball last night the Paris Wildcats erupt for a 6-1 victory over Atlanta. And the North Lamar Panthers fall to Pittsburg 4-3.

The softball playoffs begin tomorrow. The North Lamar Pantherette’s host the bi-district series opener against Tyler Chapel Hill on MIX 107.7. First pitch is at 7pm. The Detroit Lady Eagles play game one against Avery tonight at Chisum high school at 7pm. Rivercrest will take on James Bowie. And Honey Grove will face Blue Ridge.

Mount Pleasant – The Mt. Pleasant Tigers walk it off in the bottom of the 8th inning to beat the Marshall Mavericks 8-7. The Tigers are now 6-7 in district 15-5A. A pair of big innings lead the Chapel Hill Red Devils to shut out win over Queen City 10-0. And Pittsburg Pirates win at home 4-3 over the North Lamar Panthers.

Softball teams play the bi-district round this weekend. The district champion Hughes Springs Lady Mustangs take on forth place new Boston at NTCC. Game one is tomorrow at 6pm. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers finished as the district 15-5A runner up. They’ll match up with the 3rd place team out of 16-5A, Whitehouse. The Rivercrest Lady Rebels will take on James Bowie at New Boston tomorrow at 6 and the Paul Pewitt Lady Brahmas play a one game playoff against Redwater on Friday beginning at 7pm.

Sulphur Springs – We’re on the final stretch of high school baseball while area softball teams will begin the post season this weekend. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats will be on their home field as they begin a three game series in the bi-district round against Corsicana. Game one is scheduled tomorrow at 6:30. Game two is on Friday evening, also at 6:30. And game three, if necessary, will be at 1pm at North Forney high school. Alba-Golden will play the bi-district round against Van Alstyne. Lone Oak takes on Edgewood. Commerce is up against Grand Saline. And the Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers will take on either DeKalb or Hooks. Meanwhile, last night the Winnsboro baseball team falls to Edgewood.

In Major League Baseball the Texas Rangers throttle the New York Yankees 10-1. Ian Desmond hit stayed hot at the plate with a solo shot. The Rangers are 11-10 on the season and wrap up their series with the Yankees tonight. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 7:05.

The Dallas Stars are scheduled to begin the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs on Friday evening when they host the St. Louis Blues. Puck drop for game one is 7pm.

And tomorrow 32 teams across the league have a chance to reshape their franchise with the annual NFL Draft. The LA Rams hold the number one overall selection. The Dallas Cowboys will pick 4th overall.
