Yoan Moncada lined a two-run homer in his return from the injured list. Ross Detwiler struck out a career-high eight and the Chicago White Sox beat the Texas Rangers 6-1 on Thursday night. The two teams go at it again tonight at 7:10 pm.

New England Patriots’ safety Patrick Chung will be arraigned next Wednesday on a charge of cocaine possession, according to the Belknap County attorney’s office in Laconia, New Hampshire. The 32-year-old Chung was indicted on the charge Aug. 8, which added that the incident occurred June 25. The Patriots issued a statement saying they were aware of the reports but would not comment further. The NFL also said it was the case’s progress.

Luke Laufenberg, the son of former Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Babe Laufenberg and a tight end at UTEP, has died after a nearly two-year battle with cancer. He was 21. A former walk-on at Texas A&M, Luke Laufenberg played at Mesa Community College before getting diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma after his only season at the junior college in 2017. He was declared cancer-free in May 2018 before experiencing further complications this past spring. Luke Laufenberg never played for the Miners.

The Dallas Cowboys will host Houston Saturday night at 6:00 pm on the NFL Network.

Due to holes in the end zones of IG Field, where goalposts for the Canadian Football League’s bigger field are usually planted, the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers played on an 80-yard field Thursday night. Oakland won 22-21.

As expected, UCF named Notre Dame transfer Brandon Wimbush its starting quarterback on Thursday. In a statement, coach Josh Heupel said true freshman Dillon Gabriel will also play when the Knights open the season Aug. 29 against Florida A&M. Wimbush, Gabriel, and redshirt freshman Quadry Jones spent fall practice competing for the starting job. The announcement comes one week before the season officially opens.
