Most area high schools will play their final pre-season scrimmages tonight.

Hughes Springs will be at home against Harmony. Coach Chris Edwards knows what his team needs to do to improve over last week…sfx…. Mt Vernon will head to Edgewood and new Coach Art Briles says his team’s new offense needs to get better…..sfx…. Paul Pewitt will be at White Oak and Coach Triston Abron is also looking to improve…..sfx…. Mt Pleasant will host Atlanta, Pittsburg will travel to North Lamar, Sulphur Springs will play at Liberty Eyelau, Paris will host Denison, Ore City is at Rivercrest and Gilmer will be at Henderson. All those games are tonight. Daingerfield will host Gladewater on Friday.

The Dallas Cowboys will host the Houston Texans tonight at 6pm on the NFL network.

New York Jets linebacker Brandon Copeland was suspended on Wednesday without pay for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.  Copeland can practice and play in the final two preseason games. After that, he is not allowed to return to the roster until Oct. 7. He was coming off his best season, ever.

Also, don’t forget, College football returns this Saturday with 2 games on tap. First, Miami travels to #8 Florida on ESPN. And, then Arizona at Hawaii on CBSSN.

The XFL announced the names for its eight teams Wednesday: The names will be:  The Dallas Renegades, Houston Roughnecks, Los Angeles Wildcats,  New York Guardians,  St. Louis Battlehawks, Seattle Dragons, Tampa Bay Vipers and the Washington Defenders. The league debuts in February of 2020. The draft is scheduled for October, followed by a minicamp in December and training camp in January 2020.

The Texas Rangers made 2 in a row in dramatic fashion as Hunter Pence drove in three runs, including an RBI single in the ninth that put the Rangers past the Los Angeles Angels 8-7 on Wednesday night. Tonight they head to Chicago for a series with the White Sox. Fist pitch at 7:10pm.
