State Education Board to Examine History, Social Studies Standards

The State Education Board takes up social studies and history standards today. The current drafts have removed teaching the phrase “In God We Trust” as the national motto, and that’s not sitting well with conservatives. Mary Elizabeth Castle with Texas Values blames the unelected workgroup members for pushing what she calls a progressive political ideology. Last year, Texas passed a bill that requires schools to display a picture of the national motto.
