Democratic State Representative Jarvis Johnson of Houston has introduced a bill into the state legislature to end “Confederate Heroes Day” as a Texas holiday. Johnson previously filed the bill in 2019 and 2021, but the focus centered on removing Confederate monuments, and the bill never got past the State Affairs Committee. However, Johnson thinks this year’s bill will make it out of committee for a vote, and some Republicans back the measure.
