‘Stros Can Wrap Up Series Tonight Plus NFL Notes In Today’s Sports Update

 

A North Lamar win and a Pleasant Grove loss would create a tie for second place. Pleasant Grove currently holds second place with two losses in the district. The Pantherettes have three losses. North Lamar is in Texarkana to play Liberty Eylau while Pleasant Grove hosts Paris. The Lady Cats have locked up the district title.

In other volleyball action, Chisum travels to Chapel Hill. Detroit hosts James Bowie. While Clarksville is at home against Avery.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team is the No. 23 team in the nation in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association coaches’ poll. The Lions held their position from last week and have been nationally ranked in 20 of the last 21 AVCA polls. The Lions are coming off of an undefeated week, winning a non-conference home match and two road matches against LSC opponents.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce football team is ranked No. 24 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Poll. The Lions defeated Western New Mexico 62-21 at home on Saturday in A&M-Commerce’s annual Homecoming game.

The Dallas Stars host the Minnesota Wild tonight at the AAC. Dallas is looking to get back in the win column after losing to Pittsburgh Saturday night.

The Dallas Mavericks are in Denver to face the Nuggets.

Game 6 of the World Series is tonight in Houston. The Astros lead the series 3-2. Tonight’s matchup features Stephen Strasburg vs. Justin Verlander. The first pitch is at 7:07 pm on FOX.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have continued their offseason shake-up by firing executive vice president and general manager Neal Huntington, the team announced Monday. The Pirates also announced the hiring of Travis Williams as the team’s new president. He will replace Frank Connelly, who was fired last week.

In Monday Night Football, after spotting the Miami Dolphins 14 points, the Pittsburgh Steelers came back for a 27-14 win. Running back James Conner left the game with an AC joint injury.

With their top two running backs injured, the Arizona Cardinals have reached an agreement in principle to acquire Miami Dolphins’ running back, Kenyan Drake,  for a conditional 2020 draft pick. Miami will receive a 2020 sixth-round pick that can become a fifth-round pick.

Out of playoff contention, the New York Jets started to address their future, trading defensive lineman Leonard Williams to the New York Giants for draft picks. The Jets will receive a third-round pick this year and a fifth-rounder in 2021. The fifth-round pick in 2021 will become a fourth-rounder if Williams signs an extension with the Giants before the start of the 2021 league year. The Jets are paying $4-million of Williams’ $6-million salary this year.

Alabama’s coach Nick Saban expects injured quarterback Tua Tagoviloa to return to practice on Wednesday, but he was noncommittal about Tagovailoa’s status for the Nov. 9 game against LSU. “We’re not making any predictions,” Saban said.
