Sulphur Springs Council Approves Homestead Exemption

The Sulphur Springs City Council has approved the first reading of an ordinance that would grant a homestead exemption to residential property lived in by the landowner. The second reading of the law will be at the next council meeting on June 7. The percentage could be as high as 20%. The staff has recommended the greater of $5,000 or 20% of the appraised value.
