Sulphur Springs ISD Board Meeting

A regular meeting of the Sulphur Springs ISD school board was held on Monday.

PUBLIC FORUM

A public hearing was conducted on the Annual Report of Educational Performance, including the 2014-2015 Texas Academic Performance Report.

President John Prickette acknowledged the SSHS Culinary Arts program students and sponsors for their recent accomplishments at the Regional FCCLA competition. Two teams are advancing to State competition in April. The students prepared a delicious meal for the school board and administrators.

Rachel Draper reported that over 1,000 students from UIL District 15-5A participated in the academic meet held at SSMS over the weekend.

Draper also noted that Middle School science fair winners will compete at Region VIII tomorrow.

It was reported that elementary students will compete at a UIL meet in Pine Tree soon.

Don Roundtree & Charlie Wilson gave an update on the auditorium renovation project.

Jim Bayuk, SSISD Police Chief, presented a required report on racial profiling. Since the department submitted an application for exemption last year, they are automatically considered exempt until a desired change is required.

ACTION ITEMS

Along with routine matters, the following were approved:

Resolution 1-16 designating March 7-11, 2016 as Texas Public Schools Week in SSISD. The theme this year is “Public Education-A Texas Tradition”.

Head Start continuation and refunding application.

Order of Election to call trustee election for Saturday, May 7, 2016.

Appointment of Michael Wolfe as election judge and Celia Bagwell as alternate election judge for the May 7, 2016 school board election.
