Super 1 Foods Hosting Blood Drive

Brook
MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas (June 22, 2016) – Summer is in full swing. It is an excellent time for a barbecue with friends and family, for taking a road trip to grandma’s house, and for taking a dip in the lake or pool. But Carter BloodCare sees a different kind of fall during summer months: blood collections typically are lower in the months of June, July and August.

Many regular blood donors are on vacation, caring for kids out of school, or just on a different schedule than the other months of the year. Carter BloodCare challenges Mount Pleasant to make it a priority to give just one more time during summer. More than 75 percent of blood donors give only once a year. Sustaining the community blood supply is easier when donors give two or more times annually. It does not cost money, it is community volunteerism at its best, and it only takes about an hour of one’s time.

Super 1 Foods hosts a recurring blood drive every third Saturday of the month. The next blood drive is from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday (Jul 16). For more information or an appointment, call Belinda Murphy at (903) 574-4513.

Visit carterbloodcare.org and click ‘give life’ to hear personal stories about lives affected by blood transfusions. Additionally, share a personal experience of your own emailing Carter BloodCare at TellUsYourStory@carterbloodcare.org.

Remember to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water at least an hour before giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation, and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood.

Potential blood donors may volunteer to begin at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may provide independently, and there is no upper age limit for donating blood. For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.
