Perera was named LSC Field Athlete of the Week.
RICHARDSON – Texas A&M University-Commerce freshman high jumper Ushan Perera has been named the Lone Star Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for the first week of the season.
Perera (Mahabage, Sri Lanka) shattered the A&M-Commerce high jump record at the Crimson & Gold Invitational, as he claimed an automatic spot at the national championships at 7-3 (2.21m).
His mark ranked eighth in the world in this indoor season and was one centimeter outside of the all-time top 10 in Division II and three centimeters short of the Sri Lankan national record as he cleared every bar on the first attempt. It was Perera’s first meet as a collegian.
