“We’re excited about our schedule as we transition into the Division I era for Lion volleyball,” said coach Craig Case. “On top of having a challenging conference schedule, we play some perennially high-profile Division I opponents.”

The Lions play their first match Division I era at the United States Air Force Academy on August 26 against Air Force as part of the Air Force Tournament. A&M-Commerce faces Drake and Cal State Northridge on the next day, August 27.

After the season-opening trip to the US Air Force Academy, the Lions return to the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex on September 2 for the UT-Arlington Tournament. The Lions play Providence (September 2), North Texas (September 3), and the hosts’ Mavericks (September 3) at the College Park Center.

The Lions then head down to Prairie View A&M for a midweek matchup against the Panthers on September 6. The matchup is part of a home-and-home series, with the Panthers coming to Commerce on October 4.

Following the match against the Panthers, the Lions travel to Boone, North Carolina, for the Mountaineer Invitational. A&M-Commerce takes on the hosts, Appalachian State (September 9), Furman (September 10), and Presbyterian (September 10), before returning to the Lone Star state.

A&M-Commerce is in Nacogdoches for the Stephen F. Austin Tournament on September 16-17. They will announce the opponents for the three matches in Shelton Gym later.

The Lions play their first five home matches in ten days. They begin Southland Conference play on September 24 against Northwestern State. After the conference opener, A&M-Commerce renewed its rivalry against Tarleton in the Field House on September 27. The Lions and the Texans met 44 times while being members of Division II. The two teams meet again on October 11 in Stephenville.

Southland Conference play resumes at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (September 29) and Houston Baptist (October 1) and the non-conference matchup against the Panthers on October 4.

The Lions make their first trip to Louisiana of the season on October 6-8. A&M-Commerce plays at McNeese on October 6 and Nicholls on October 8. After the road matchup at Tarleton on October 11, the Lions host Southeastern Louisiana on October 13, and New Orleans on October 15, the Lions play the two teams twice in nine days.

To begin the second half of the conference play, A&M-Commerce travels to Southeastern Louisiana on October 20 and New Orleans on October 22. Then, the Colonels and the Cowgirls come to Commerce for the final two home matches of the season on October 27 and 29, respectively.

The Lions conclude the regular season with three straight road matchups. They are at Houston Baptist on November 3, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on November 5, and Northwestern State on November 10.

Though they are not eligible to participate in the NCAA Tournament in 2022, the Lions qualify for the Southland Conference Tournament, which Southeastern Louisiana will host on November 17-19.

Case concluded, “It will be a challenging first season in Division I with this schedule, but we have a roster that is up for that challenge.”
