Lion men take third, and women finish seventh on the first trip to SLC Indoors.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams finished a monumental Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships with the Lion men on Monday at the Birmingham Crossplex, taking third and the women finishing seventh.

In their first time competing in the Southland championships, the Lion men totaled 91 points for third, while the women totaled 46 points for seventh.

They crowned the Lions Southland Conference Champions in three events, their first conference titles since joining the Southland and moving up to NCAA Division I. J.T. Smith (Klein Oak) won the men’s 60-meter dash, Delan Edwin (Castries, Saint Lucia) won the men’s 200-meter dash. The women’s 4×400 meter relay team also closed the meet out with a gold medal.

A&M-Commerce was the only school to finish in the top three in men’s and women’s 4×400 relays.

You can find the full results of the meeting HERE. After a few weeks off, the Lions begin the outdoor season on March 17-18 in San Antonio at the UTSA Invitational.
