Lion Women face Northwestern State in SLC Tournament First Round.
COMMERCE – Having won a postseason game in each of the last five seasons, the fifth-seeded Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team looks to make it six in a row on Monday morning when it faces eighth-seeded Northwestern State in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

McNeese downs Lion Men’s Basketball, 79-78, in SLC Tournament First Round.
LAKE CHARLES, La. – One free throw separated the fifth-seeded Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s basketball team and eighth-seeded McNeese on Sunday evening in the Legacy Center, with the home-standing Cowboys taking a 79-78 win in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament and ending the Lions’ inaugural season in NCAA Division I.
The Lions finish 13-20 in their first season in the Southland and NCAA Division I. After being picked seventh in the preseason, the Lions finished fifth in conference play and played 23 road games.
McNeese faces fourth-seeded Nicholls in the quarterfinals on Monday evening.

The Lions score five in the seventh to walk off Weber State.
TUCSON, Ariz. – Trailing by four runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Texas A&M University-Commerce softball team completed an empathic comeback to down the Weber State Wildcats, 8-7, in walk-off fashion on Sunday afternoon at Hillenbrand Stadium.
Down 7-3 entering the seventh, Avery Zeigler (Southlake Carroll) singled to lead off the inning and was pinch-run by KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.). Shelby Hodge (Katy – Cinco Ranch) came in as a pinch hitter and hit a base hit. Emma Olsen (Elk Grove, Calif.) came to pinch run for her.
Camile Nunez (Madera, Calif.) drove in Cosek with a sacrifice fly to right, while Olsen scored on a two-run no-doubt home run to left by Ayanna Williams (Round Rock – Cedar Ridge), her second home run in as many days.
UP NEXT
The Lions’ next scheduled game is on March 14 at North Texas. The doubleheader in Denton begins at 4 p.m. They canceled the initially scheduled tournament at Nevada on March 10-11.
