Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland Leo Varadkar Visits Choctaw Nation
The Choctaw Nation visited Ireland in June 2017 to join in the unveiling of Kindred Spirits, a monument commemorating the bond between Ireland and the Choctaw Nation. Monday (Mar 12), the Prime Minister of Ireland, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, will visit the Choctaw Nation in Durant. Choctaw Nationa is preparing a cultural program for Taoiseach Varadkar. It includes sharing of music, both Irish and Choctaw, and daycare children showing their knowledge of Choctaw vocabulary. It is a topic relevant to the Irish as they, too, fear to lose their first language. Also, a historian’s account of the donation from the Choctaw Nation to Ireland in 1847. It was the selfless act that has forged the lasting connection between the countries. Also announced are scholarships, and messages from Chief Batton and Taoiseach Varadkar.
