Texas Conservatives Split On Contact Tracing

Conservatives appear divided over Governor Abbott’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. One area of disagreement is over the Governor’s contact tracing program. The US House Freedom Caucus recently referred to contact tracing as virus surveillance used to spy on Americans. Texas representative Chip Roy called it government tracking. But not all conservatives oppose it. The Texas Public Policy Foundation supports Governor Abbott. Abbott hopes to have up to 4-thousand contact tracers working by Phase 3 of the state’s reopening.
