
This spike in Covid cases is not slowing the surging Texas economy. Experts like economist Ray Perryman say, when it comes to sales tax revenues, they’ve never seen anything like this. The latest report from the Texas Comptroller’s Office shows that Christmas shopping drove a double-digit increase in the retail sector. Spending at restaurants is also up sharply, and is now above pre-pandemic levels. That’s a sharp contrast to other states, like California, where businesses are voluntarily closing, due to covid cases.
