Texas Lawmakers Get Data On Property Tax Cuts

Texas lawmakers are getting a glimpse at the cost of cutting your taxes. Republicans want to eliminate property taxes, but at a hearing this week, the Comptroller’s office says they must make up all that money elsewhere. Sales taxes, they say, would be raised to 22 percent. Senator Charles Perry, a Republican, says getting rid of all property taxes in Texas would cost more than $ 81 billion.
