Texas Legislative News: Property Tax Reform And Teacher Raises

Governor Greg Abbott said a deal has been made on school finance and property tax reform, which was were the top priorities of the legislative session. The measures include the proposed budget, Senate Bill 2 which deals with property taxes, and the school finance bill, House Bill 3. Abbott says the bills lower school property tax rates by an average of eight cents in 2020 and 13 cents in 2021.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says $1.6 billion in public school teacher raises are coming. Lawmakers said the raises amount to roughly $4,000 for experienced teachers. Teacher unions met the news with caution, saying they needed to see details. The Texas legislative session ends Monday.
