Texas Sales Tax Holiday

Sales Tax Holidays for Water-Efficient and ENERGY STAR® Products
Set for This Weekend

(AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding families and businesses that they can save on the purchase of specific water- and energy-efficient products during the state’s Water-Efficient Products and ENERGY STAR® sales tax holidays. Both take place Saturday, May 26, through Monday, May 28.

Hegar is promoting the sales tax holidays at an event today at 1:30 p.m. in Austin at The Home Depot, 1200 Barbara Jordan Blvd., Suite 10. Media are welcome to attend. George Kelemen, president and CEO of the Texas Retailers Association and board member of the Texas Water Smart Foundation, and John Frey of The Home Depot will join Hegar.

“Saving energy and water is especially important with Texas’ hot summers,” Hegar said. “Much of our state is already in drought, and we know triple-digit temperatures are just days away. The ENERGY STAR and Water-Efficient Products sales tax holidays can help all Texans save money now and natural resources later in the hot, dry summer season.”

The Texas Comptroller’s office estimates shoppers will save about $10.7 million in state and local sales tax during the Memorial Day weekend sales tax holidays.

“The Home Depot is proud to support this important sales tax holiday,” said Ron Jarvis, The Home Depot’s vice president of environmental innovation. “We hope Texans use this opportunity to make worthwhile investments in WaterSense products, as well as in lawn and garden products while taking important steps to maximize water conservation efforts throughout the Lone Star State.”
