The state’s ban on straight-ticket voting will remain law, at least for now. A federal appeals court ruled that the plaintiffs sued the wrong people in three lawsuits to overturn the ban on straight-ticket voting. Lawmakers banned allowing a straight-ticket vote in 2017, but the law didn’t take effect until 2020. The Dallas Morning News reports the court ruled that they should have filed the suit against local election officials and not against the Texas Secretary of State, which the court claimed doesn’t administer elections.
