Text-to-9-1-1 service is now available in nine area counties in Texas: Bowie, Cass, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Lamar, Morris, Red River, and Titus. It’s a nationwide initiative to implement the texting service, and officials with the Ark-Tex Council of Governments said they’re answering the call. Currently, you can only Text-to-911 if your cellular service is with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile. Officials emphasized that dialing 9-1-1 and speaking to a dispatcher is still the best way to reach out for help.
