There is $1 Billion In Unclaimed Property

Comptroller Glenn Hegar Returns $1 Billion to Texas Unclaimed Property Owners

(AUSTIN) — Comptroller Glenn Hegar has returned $1 billion in unclaimed property to its rightful owners since he took office in January 2015, the Comptroller’s office announced today.

“This landmark achievement represents the commitment this office has made to reuniting unclaimed property with its rightful owners,” Hegar said. “I’m proud of the folks in our Unclaimed Property program, and I encourage everyone to go to our website and see if there is money waiting for them.”

Hegar recently presented Austin resident Ed Snouffer with a check for more than $700, which took the total amount of unclaimed property returned across the landmark threshold. Snouffer is one of about 830,000 claims approved while Hegar has been comptroller.

Since 2015, the Comptroller’s office has redesigned its unclaimed property website and internal systems to make the claims process faster, easier and more efficient. The site allows users to upload claim documentation directly to ClaimitTexas.org and is mobile-optimized to make it easier to search for unclaimed property on smartphones and tablets.

The state has returned more than $3 billion in unclaimed property to its rightful owners since the program’s inception in 1962. You can search ClaimitTexas.org or call 800-321-2274 (CASH) to see if you have unclaimed property.
