Three Killed In Smith County Crash

Monday morning around 4:30 there was a two-vehicle fatal crash on IH-20 one mile east of Lindale in Smith County. Reportedly, the operator of a 2017 International Truck-tractor towing a semi-trailer was legally parked on the westbound shoulder of IH-20 near the 557-mile marker. At the same time, the driver of a 2016 Jeep Renegade, Chelsey Elizabeth Brewer, 36, of Grand Prairie, was traveling westbound on IH-20, drifted on to the shoulder of the roadway and struck the parked truck and semi-trailer.

Paramedics transported Brewer to UT Health-Tyler were she was later pronounced dead by Dr. Jason Murray. Two 16-year-old female passengers in the Jeep were pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Cowart, they were transported to Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale.

The operator of the truck, who was asleep in the sleeper cab, Joseph Allen Bettis, 31, of Milton FL was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
