He told USA Today on Wednesday, ending an illustrious 26-year career as a big-league skipper highlighted by a World Series win last season. Baker, 74, said, “I felt like they’ve been good for me, and I’ve been good for them, referring to the Houston Astros and Jim Crane.

Luka Doncic had 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists, and the Dallas Mavericks spoiled the NBA debut of No. 1 draft pick Victor Wembanyama. The Mavs did in the Spurs 126-119 Wednesday night.
The league announced Wednesday that the NBA All-Star Game is returning to its original format this season in Indianapolis. The game, which will take place on February 18 at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, will feature an Eastern Conference team and a Western Conference team, comprising 12 players from each conference. This change will end the All-Star draft that has taken place for the past six seasons, and fan voting will determine team captains of the five starters on each team.

The Mount Pleasant High School golf teams continued their fall seasons in Sulphur Springs this week, with the Lady Tigers playing on Monday, October 23, and the Tigers on Tuesday, October 24, both at the Sulphur Springs Country Club. Leading the way for the Lady Tigers, Kylee Strickland shot a 79 and finished 5th overall, followed by Sophie Greco with an 88 and 8th place, and Kate Ball with a 111. For the Tigers, 2023 state qualifier Jacob Baker shot a 72 and tied for 1st place. Brandon Carter shot an 82, Braiden Merryman an 86, Alessandro Greco 101, and Prestyn Joyner 116. The Sulphur Springs tournament was the last one for the Lady Tigers until the spring. The Tigers will play in their final fall tournament on November 6 at Mt Pleasant Country Club. There will be a volleyball playoff game at Willie Williams Gym on Monday, October 30, between Atlanta (home) and Mineola (visitors) at 7:00 pm. Ticket prices will be $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.
