Tyron Smith was 20 years old when the Dallas Cowboys drafted him in the first round in 2011. Now 34, Smith retired as a Cowboy on Wednesday, signing a ceremonial contract to make it official after spending last season with the New York Jets.

Veteran umpire Hunter Wendelstedt went to a hospital for further examination on Wednesday. Wendelstedt instantly fell to the ground after he took a direct hit from the line smashed off the bat of New York Mets center fielder Tyrone Taylor in the seventh inning.

For the second straight year, the East Texas A&M University women’s golf team finished second at the Southland Conference Championships, powered by Marie Baertz, who tied for second at the Kissing Tree Golf Club. The Lions came into Wednesday’s final round in sixth place but tied for the lowest team score in the third round among the eight participating schools to climb to a tie for second place.

Eleven student-athletes from the East Texas A&M University football team were named to the 2025 National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society on Wednesday, as announced by the NFF and College Hall of Fame. College football players from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA, and Sprint Football, who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers, comprise the Hampshire Honor Society.
