Well, that was different. American Airlines Center was empty, and the Mavericks came up short against the Hornets during their home opener. It had been 294 days since the Mavericks last played a meaningful game in Dallas. Wednesday, Charlotte routed them, 30-12, in the third quarter. The Mavericks shot just 39.1% from the field and 28.6% from three and were out-rebounded 50-40. The final was Charlotte 118, Dallas 99.

San Antonio lost to the Lakers 121-107.

NFL

In the NFC East Standings, Dallas and Washington are both 6

-9 followed by New York and Philadelphia. Dallas will be at New York Sunday with a Noon start on FOX, and Houston will host Tennessee at 3:25 on CBS.

BOWL

The No. 8 Sooners navigated through the season played under a COVID the pandemic and their first 0-2 start in Big 12 play since 1998. It ended with them winning their sixth conference title in a row, then wrapped it up with an overwhelming 55-20 win over 10th-ranked SEC runner-up Florida on Wednesday night in the Cotton Bowl, the first New Year’s Six game played.

The Southland Conference announced two schedule changes for the SFA men’s basketball team. The ‘Jacks home game on January 30 against Sam Houston State has moved to January 31. The game will tip-off at 3:00 pm and nationally televised on ESPNU. The women’s game that preceded the men’s game on Saturday will remain at its original date and 2:00 pm time slot. The other schedule change relates to the recent shutdown of the Texas A&M Corpus Christi program. The Islanders will not return to the court until January 5, and the ‘Jacks game on January 6 against the Islanders will now take place on February 3.
