Leading scorer Donovan Mitchell wasn’t on the floor, but the Utah Jazz never trailed in a 116-104 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. The Jazz defeated the Mavericks for their 10th straight win and the NBA overall lead. Rudy Gobert led the way with his best all-around performance of the season finishing with 29 points and 20 rebounds, both season highs, and had three blocks and three steals.

The No. 2 Bears moved to 15-0 for the third time in program history with their second lopsided victory over Kansas State. The final was 107-59. Baylor last month became the first opponent since 1992 to score 100 points at Kansas State in a 31-point victory.

They adjusted the schedule for this weekend’s two-game women’s basketball series between Texas A&M University-Commerce, and Angelo State. They now play on Saturday, January 30, and Sunday, January 31, in ASU’s Junell Center. Both of the Lone Star Conference games tip-off at 3:30 p.m.

The U.S. Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA) ranked Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s indoor track and field team seventh nationally.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce softball team will begin the 2021 season ranked ninth nationally by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. It marks the 34th consecutive poll in which A&M-Commerce ranked in the nation’s top 25. The Lions completed the shortened 2020 season with a 16-7 record overall and a 5-3 record in Lone Star Conference play. The Lions never lost to an unranked team during the 2020 year.

BASKETBALL

The Mount Pleasant Tigers hit the 20-win mark for the second straight season and the fifth time in the past six seasons with wins over Texas High on Friday and a 52-point romp of Marshall on Tuesday. The Tigers remain undefeated and maintain their state ranking of 11 with three district games remaining and a strong playoff push in their sights.

BASEBALL

Sulphur Springs Wildcat’s Aiken Owens signed a letter to play baseball at East Texas Baptist in Marshall. Owens plays infield at first, third, and on the mound. Owens is the son of Brandon and Leslie Owens and Mark and Jennifer Hill.

SOCCER

Sulphur Springs boys’ soccer gave Pleasant Grove a 5-0 gift Tuesday. Sulphur Springs had at least 25 shots on goal and only ended up with five, as they head for district Friday with four wins in a row.
