The Cincinnati Reds did in the Houston Astros 5-3 on Monday. Cincinnati collected 13 hits, but it went 3 for 11 with runners in scoring position and left 14 on base.

On Monday, the Chicago White Sox extended their losing streak to 11 games with a 13-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. It is the 20th straight loss in which Chris Flexen started to set baseball’s modern-era record for most consecutive losses in a pitcher’s starts, shared with the Washington Nationals’ Bob Groom.

The San Francisco 49ers placed receiver Ricky Pearsall (PEAR-sall) on the reserve/non-football injury list Monday, two days after someone shot him in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco. The NFI designation means Pearsall must miss at least the first four games of his rookie season as he recovers.

On Monday, the Southland Conference named Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball libero (LIB-bre-o) Jade Smith Player of the Week. Smith (Houston – Mayde Creek) guided the Lions to a 2-1 opening weekend on their home floor as part of the Lion Invitational.

Despite 22 shots on a humid Sunday night at the Lion Soccer Field, the Lions soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to the Tarleton State Texans.

Forty-two points in the second half gave the San Diego Aztecs a 45-14 win over the Texas A&M University-Commerce football team on Saturday evening at Snapdragon Stadium. The Lions led 6-3 at halftime.
