MLB

Houston is digging a hole and so far, they are two down. Tampa Bay took Game 2 of the AL Championship Series 4-2 Monday. Atlanta is like Tampa Bay. They are undefeated after Game 1 over the Dodgers in the NL Championship Series with a 5-1 victory. After only six regular-season starts, Ian Anderson, 22, has won both his playoff games for the Braves.

NFL

New Orleans’ defense stopped Chargers’ receiver Mike Williams and preserved a 30-27 victory over Los Angeles Monday night. Wil Lutz kicked a 36-yard field goal with just over 5:00 minutes left in overtime for the win.

The Dallas Cowboys plan to sign quarterback Garrett Gilbert off the practice squad of the Cleveland Browns. Dak Prescott’s ankle surgery went well with a timeline of return now six months away.

NCAA

Baylor University reported a hotbed of COVID-19 Monday. They have 32 student-athletes, 28 of whom are football players. There are fourteen football staff members with active virus cases too.

LSC

The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s golf team pushed for an event title but finished fifth at the 36-hole Oklahoma Intercollegiate on Monday in an event where seven strokes separated the top six teams. The Lions finished at 66-over par 634 (320-314), six strokes behind UT Tyler, and two strokes out of third place.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s golf team leads the Midwestern State Invitational after 36 holes of action on Monday. The Lions hold a five-stroke lead over hosts Midwestern State at 571 (+3, 289-282). The 36-hole score of 571 is the fifth-best in school history and the second round of 282 ties for the ninth-best round in school history.

NTCC

Northeast hired Joshua Freeman as its next Head Coach for the Eagles softball team after a nationwide search. Freeman comes to Northeast from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. He is a native of Charlotte, NC, and brings his wife Melissa, and one child, Lauren.

HIGH SCHOOL

Sulphur Springs’ first district varsity game against Crandall received a no go after football players landed on quarantine for COVID. Coach Greg Owens hopes they can make the came up down the road.

Tyler Legacy’s game against Allen will not happen. The Allen Eagles canceled the game because of COVID. There were some 30 teams in the Dallas Fort Worth area last weekend that didn’t play because of the virus.
