Former Mount Pleasant Tiger Braden Duff hit a big two-run double to keep things interesting for Northeast Texas in the Eagles’ 12-8 loss in the second half of a doubleheader against Bossier Parish on Friday. The sophomore was 1-for-4 with two RBI. Duff hit a double in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 9-6. Northeast lost the first game, 7-1. The Eagles were in Shreveport Monday, playing Centenary.

GOLF
With the result of the match in the balance entering the 18th hole on Monday evening, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros (vuh-KEH-rows) edged out the East Texas A&M University men’s golf team 3-2 in the South Texas Match Play semifinals after the Lions won 3.5-1.5 over UIW earlier in the day. East Texas A&M and Southeastern face off for third place in the match-play tournament on Tuesday.

A 12-stroke improvement on Monday afternoon has the East Texas A&M University women’s golf team in 11th place following the first two rounds of the Riverbend Collegiate at Riverbend Country Club. The third round concludes with a shotgun start on Tuesday morning.

RODEO
A tie-down roper from Mount Pleasant won three rounds at separate rodeos last week. Kincade Henry placed first in the first two rounds of RODEOHOUSTON for $3,000 each. He also went on to win round one at the Matagorda County Fair & Rodeo in Bay City for another $2,003, giving him a total of $8,003 for the week. Henry is currently 20th in the PRCA world rankings for tie-down roping.

HIGH SCHOOL
The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats Powerlifting Team competed in the Regional Meet. Madison Jeter, who placed third in the 105-pound division, qualified for the State Powerlifting Meet.
