WBIR has confirmed with a high-level University of Tennessee administrator that Tennessee is parting ways with football head coach Jeremy Pruitt, firing him “for cause” as an investigation into “serious” NCAA violations surfaced. Pruitt, along with Tennessee assistant coaches Brian Niedermeyer and Shelton Felton, was among those fired. A total of nine employees under Pruitt’s leadership, including four on-campus recruiting staff, a quality control analyst coach, and the director and assistant director of football player personnel, received ‘Notice of Intent to Terminate’ letters on Monday.

No. 17 Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball team opens a three-game homestand on Tuesday evening with a Lone Star Conference battle against the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions. The game time is 5:30 pm at the Field House in Commerce.

Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore guard Josiah Johnson of Big Sandy received the Co-West Division Player of the Week in helping the team’s two wins. Johnson averaged 31 points, 11 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and four steals per contest. For the week, Johnson was 25-of-26 from the free-throw line.

HIGH SCHOOL

The Mt Pleasant Tigers will travel to Longview on Tuesday with all three teams starting at 5:00 pm. Longview ISD has strict policies on bags as well as COVID-19 procedures. You can purchase tickets at the door, but they only accept cards, no cash. Games are streamed live on the Longview ISD YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/LongviewISDAthletics/featured.

Texas High’s girls started the second half of their District 15-5A race this past week and are currently third in the district standings with a 5-3 record. The Texas High Lady Tigers host district-leading Hallsville (6-1) Tuesday, travel to Longview (1-5) Friday, and are home Saturday at noon with junior varsity against Mount Pleasant (5-2).

Sulphur Springs did in the Texas High Tigers in overtime last Friday to close out their first half of District 15-5A play with a 2-4 record and are currently fifth in the league standings. Texas High travels to Hallsville (3-3) on Tuesday, hosts Longview (4-2) on Friday, and plays at No. 14 unbeaten Mount Pleasant (6-0) Saturday.

Campbell High School has a meeting at 11:30 Tuesday morning with the UIL State Executive Committee. It comes after Coach Jason Crow’s ejection from a contest while on probation. It will be a teleconference available live on the UIL State Executive Committee Page.
