The NBA updated its health and safety protocols Monday, and now players who test positive for COVID-19 have a quicker path to return to play. The most significant change is isolation periods for players who test positive may now be significantly shortened, down to six days from what has been the customary 10. That is, if those players are asymptomatic and meet other testing standards.

They canceled the No. 2 ranked Kilgore College men’s basketball game scheduled for Tuesday. Southwestern Christian College has too many COVID cases to travel.

HIGH SCHOOL

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats claimed their opening game over Lake Travis 54-45 in the Allen Holiday Tournament. Sulphur Springs is now 16-5 and 1-0 district. They face Rowlett at 2:00 pm and No. 7 Frisco Memorial at 6:30 Tuesday (Dec 28).

Mt Pleasant Tigers squeezed by Longview Lobos 54-52 for their first district win. Neither team led by more than f points the entire game as Mount Pleasant went back and forth, unable to gain any momentum. The Tigers will play in the Franklin Christmas Invitational Dec 27-29 and advance to the winner’s side of the bracket to face Waco Connally in their second game. The Tigers return to district play on Jan 7 and host Texas High.

Winnsboro girls were in Arkansas Monday a played one of the state’s high-ranked teams. They came home with a 73 to 51 victory.
