Gonzaga remained at No. 1 for the second straight week, receiving all 61 votes from a media panel in the poll released Monday. Arizona moved up a spot to No. 2 for its highest ranking in four years, with Auburn, Purdue, and Kansas rounding out the top five. The Red Raiders move up to No. 9, Baylor is 10, and Texas is No. 20.

Mary Hardin-Baylor junior guard Josiah Johnson of Big Sandy helped the No. 9 Cru to a 3-0 week, averaging 24.00 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 4.3 steals per contest while shooting 54.5 (24-of-44) overall, 7-of-16 from three-point range, and 17-of-23 from the line. He poured in 30+ points in wins over Belhaven and East Texas Baptist, and it is Johnson’s fifth Player of the Week and 12th of his career.

HIGH SCHOOL

Police on Monday confirmed DreVion Booker, 16, a Waco University High School basketball player, died after a shooting Sunday night. The search for the murder suspect continues. When officers arrived at the scene, they located Booker suffering from gunshot wounds.
