Less than a week after his controversial hire as the new offensive coordinator at Grambling State University, Art Briles has resigned. The former disgraced Baylor coach said he didn’t want to be a “distraction” at the prominent HBCU with a storied football program in northern Louisiana, leaving the program just five days after coach Hue Jackson surprisingly hired him. Last Thursday, the hire was officially confirmed and immediately drew criticism, including former Grambling quarterback and Head Coach Doug Williams. They reportedly said he would no longer support Grambling’s football program. On Monday, Briles thanked Grambling for that opportunity in a brief statement.
