State Troopers responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash Sunday morning on FM-235 in Cherokee County, about .3 of a mile east of New Summerfield. Preliminary crash investigation shows the driver of a 2001 GMC Yukon was traveling west on FM-235 at an unsafe speed, approaching curve under dark lighted conditions. While traveling west, the vehicle left the roadway slightly to the north, then overcorrected back across to the south side skidding across the roadway. The Yukon then rolled on its right side two times, ejecting both the driver and passenger who were not secured by safety belts. Both driver, identified as Uriel Torres, 20, of Cedar Creek, and passenger Jose Arredondo, 22, of Jacksonville, were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace – Precinct # 1 Brenda Dominy. The crash remains under investigation.
