Two Dead In Smith County Crash

On June 15, 2018, at 10:15 pm, Troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on FM-1253 at County Road 455 in Smith County approximately 6.5 miles northeast of Van. Crash investigators determine that the driver of a 1994 Ford F-150, identified as John Hunt, 39, of Big Sandy, was traveling southbound on FM-1235 when for an unknown reason, he drove onto the wrong side of the roadway and struck a 1992 Ford F-150 driven by Timothy Pickens, 55, of Van, head-on. Both drivers were killed. The crash remains under investigation.
