TxDOT Widening FM 3417

FM 3417 to be Widened in Titus County

ATLANTA – Farm-to-Market Road 3417 in Titus County will be widened this year according to plans approved in April by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be widening a 4.3-mile section of the FM 3417 between US 271 and FM 127 southwest of Mount Pleasant. The current highway is 21 feet wide, and we will be widening it to 26 feet. The existing pavement structure is no longer suitable for the current traffic loads. The pavement structure will be strengthened to handle better the traffic loads based on the current roadway use. The widening will allow for two 11-foot traffic lanes with 2-foot paved shoulders on each side.” said Bill Compton, area engineer for TxDOT in Mount Pleasant.

H.V. Caver, Inc. received the contract for the project with a bid of $3.2 million.

Work on the project should begin in July and take about five months to complete, Compton said.

Safety Features to be Added to Area Highways

Thirteen highways in Northeast Texas on schedule for new features

ATLANTA – Safety features in the form of texturized centerlines and shoulders will be added to 13 area highways during coming months, according to plans approved in April by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). “We are looking at installing texturized pavement methods to centerline areas of these highways to help prevent crossover crashes and along the shoulders to prevent run-off-the-road crashes,” said Rebecca Wells, director of Traffic Operations for TxDOT in Atlanta. “The texturized pavement methods make noise when vehicle tires run over them, alerting drivers that they are getting out of their traffic lane.”

Stripe-A-Zone of Grand Prairie received the contract for the construction of these projects with a bid of $1.1 million.

Work on the projects should begin in July of this year and take about three months to complete, Wells said.
