Paris – Area volleyball teams were action last night for district play. In a Lamar County showdown, the Chisum Lady Mustangs stay hot after taking down the Prairiland Lady Patriots in four sets, putting Chisum in 2nd place in district 13-3A. Meanwhile, the North Lamar Pantherette’s dominate a 3 set sweep over Atlanta to stay unbeaten and the Paris Lady Cats fall to the Pleasant Grove Lady Hawks. Pleasant Grove is currently in 2nd behind North Lamar, followed by Paris in 3rd.

The Texas UIL Legislative Counsel met early this week to discuss proposed rule changes in high school sports. Most notably in baseball where pitchers would be limited to 110 pitcher per day. The new rule would have the most impact in the post season when a team may play a double header in a best of three series.

Another policy in consideration would only effect class 6A football. Language approved in a new amendment would give home field advantage to the top two seeds of the bi-district of the 6A football playoffs.

Last night in the MLB post season the Toronto Blue Jays extend the ALCS after beating Cleveland 5-1 in game 4. The Indians lead the series 3 games to 1 with game five this afternoon at 3pm. The L-A Dodgers win game three over the Chicago Cubs 6-0. The Dodgers now hold a 2-1 edge over the team who finished the regular season with the most wins in baseball. Game four is tonight at 7pm.

And yesterday the Dallas Stars pick up their second win of the season 2-1 over the Nashville Predators. Adam Cracknell netted the first goal for the Stars in the 2nd period while Jason Spezza netted the 2nd goal in the 3rd. With the victory the Stars improve to 2-1-0 with 4 points on the season. Dallas returns to the ice tomorrow night at the A-A-C where they’ll host the L-A Kings.
