Upgrades To US 271

Safety Upgrades Slated for US 271 in Red River County

Texas Department of Transportation officials today announced that a project to add several safety upgrades to US 271 in Red River County begins Thursday (May 17). The project is from FM 410 to the Red River-Titus County line.

The contractor, Highway 19 Construction LLC, Sulphur Springs, was granted 93 working days for this project valued at more than $840,000. The target completion date is late fall of 2018, weather permitting, officials said.

The contractor will upgrade metal guard fence and bridge rails, extend existing drainage structures and add safety treatments to cross and parallel architectures. Workers will maintain access to adjacent properties while this project is underway. The roadway will be open to traffic at all times, but occasional lane and shoulder closures will occur during the improvements.

Motorists who regularly travel in this area are reminded to remain alert and pay special attention to all signs, barricades and traffic controls, and to reduce their speed as they approach and travel safely through work zones. They should also avoid distractions such as cell phones, eating, drinking or car audio and navigation systems, officials said.
