Upshur County Man’s Life Sentence Upheld

The Upshur County District Attorney’s Offices issued a press release reporting that the 12th Court of Appeals affirmed the life sentence of Joshua David Verhoef of Gladewater. Verhoef was convicted and sentenced in April 2021 for striking and choking his girlfriend at her home in Union Grove while high on methamphetamine. The jury heard testimony that Verhoef had over 20 prior criminal convictions.
