From Delta County Sheriff’s Office

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gregory Riccardo Wylie originally from the Dallas area for Evading Arrest and outstanding Parole violation warrants following a traffic stop on June 16, 2016. The suspect was stopped by Deputy Tanner Steward for speeding approximately two miles West of Cooper on Texas 24. During the identification process and attempt to detain, the suspect fled on foot into an adjacent cotton field.

Additional units were requested to assist in the resulting manhunt including several additional Delta County Sheriff’s Office units, Commerce Police Department, the local game warden and the Cooper Volunteer Fire Department. The Texas Department of Corrections (TDC) in Bonham was also contacted to provide assistance with tracking dogs. At approximately 12:15 AM on June 17, 2016 the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was located by the TDC dogs approximately one-quarter mile from where the stop took place and found hiding in a cedar tree.
The suspect had outstanding parole violation warrants with notations of “to be considered armed and dangerous”. Past offenses included drug and weapons violations that led to the armed and dangerous consideration. Although originally from the Dallas area the suspect had recently been staying in Delta County in the Lake Creek area.

Sheriff Ricky Smith said, “I want to commend our Delta County Sheriff’s Office staff and all others that assisted in this manhunt. We had a dangerous criminal on the run in our county, our law enforcement officers quickly established a confined perimeter and the suspect was arrested within three hours. I would like to particularly commend the TDC dog team. After releasing the dogs the suspect was found in less than 15 minutes hiding in a cedar tree”.
